Welcome to the PLINIUS Prototypic corium platform
PLINIUS is the only European experimental platform dedicated to the study of severe accidents using large masses of prototypic corium (i.e. high temperature molten mixtures containing depleted uranium oxides prototypic of the melt that could arise during hypothetical severe accidents). It consists of 4 facilities: VULCANO, COLIMA, KROTOS, VITI
It has been dedicated to C. Plinius Caecilius Secundus (Pliny the Younger) who wrote the scientific description of the AD 79 Vesuvius eruption.
Since 2001, this platform has been opened to Transnational Access thanks to EURATOM 5th and 6th Framework Programme projects.

EC-supported Transnational Access to Large-Scale Infrastructure
Contract n° 036403 "PLINIUS FP6"
The EC can sponsor your visit to perform a prototypic corium experiment in our PLINIUS platform (VULCANO, KROTOS, COLIMA and VITI corium facilities) at CEA/Cadarache.
Within this scheme, Experimental costs + Travel and subsistence will be fully paid.
